CAREGIVER

Summary

Build a rewarding career in providing care to senior citizens in a comfortable home environment with Golden Years Residential Care (GYRC). A caregiver provides assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the residential care facility and performs household tasks necessary for the operation of the facility. When you join the GYRC family, your meals, snacks and beverages will be included, and your work schedule will be flexible. The facility has a private room available for caregivers who wish to reside onsite. Salary is commensurate with experience.

 
Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age

  • Responsible and mature, and have the personal qualities to understand the problems of elderly persons and persons with disabilities

  • Enhance the quality of life of residents with kindness and compassion

  • Understand the provisions of NAC 449.156 to 449.27706

  • Demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak English

  • Possess the appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the needs of the residents of the facility

  • Good health and free of any communicable diseases

  • Ability to lift and transfer residents weighing up to 200 pounds from sitting to standing and assist them to move from standing to sitting positions

  • Capable of exercising good judgment and flexibility in meeting residents’ needs

  • Able to maintain confidentiality

  • Possess a good work ethic and integrity

  • Knowledgeable about the use of prosthetic devices or dental, vision and hearing aids is preferred

  • At least 1 year of caregiver work experience in a licensed residential care facility is preferred

  • Pass a background check

Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (i.e. bathing, grooming, using toilet, eating, etc.)

  • Cook, serve and assist with meals as needed

  • Administer medication to residents per physician orders

  • Keep facility documents updated regularly according to regulations and facility policies

  • Perform housekeeping duties as instructed by supervisor (sweeping, mopping, dusting, laundry, etc.)

  • Assist residents with daily facility activities (i.e. games, cards, music, exercise, reading writing, etc.)

  • Monitor residents’ health and general wellbeing and report any changes to supervisor

  • Follow residents’ plan of care

  • Greet visitors appropriately and assist them according to facility policy

  • Answer the phone with company greeting

  • Exercise kindness and compassion in caring for residents

  • Follow facility policies at all times

  • Conduct yourself ethically

  • Be courteous and considerate

  • Wear scrub top to work and maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance

  • Obtain a physical exam and be declared physically fit for the position

  • Obtain a TB test and be free of communicable diseases

Training Requirements
  • Receive annually not less than 8 hours of training related to providing for the needs of the residents of a residential facility

  • Receive at least 16 hours of initial training in the management of medication consisting of not less than 12 hours of classroom training and not less than 4 hours of practical training, and obtain a certificate acknowledging the completion of such training

  • Receive annually at least 8 hours of training in the management of medication and provide the residential facility with satisfactory evidence of the content of the training and attendance at the training

  • Complete the medication management training program developed by the administrator of the residential facility

  • Annually pass an examination relating to the management of medication approved by the Bureau.

  • CPR and first aid certification

  • Complete 8 hours of working with people afflicted with Alzheimer’s and other dementias

  • Complete elder abuse training
